MATE 3032 practice

Homework will be due on Wednesday or Thursday of each week, unless otherwise indicated. How I mark it: short quiz will be given at random times (on average, weekly). It often consists of two or three problems, at least one of which corresponds to one of the assigned exercises. On that quiz problem, the homework solution will help improve the mark, unless there is clearly no relation between the two solutions. Quiz will usually bear on the last two homework sets handed in, and any material at least as recent covered in class. Often one problem will correspond to an example, or a step of proof done in class. This is an incentive to take notes and study them. Quiz/homework counts for 40% of the grade.
On homework, present your work neatly, and write your name, course, section, and homework number. Use pencil. Work which is sloppy or evidently rushed will not be graded.
Adequate preparation for tests consists in working out most of the problems in the syllabus. You will note that there are on average three times as many as assigned for homework. Conclude as to how much time per week you should be spending in this course. My suggestion is: at least eight hours.
